What Claude can actually do

Claude is an AI tool you talk to in plain language, on the web, in an app, or on your phone. You give it text, emails, documents, spreadsheets, PDFs and images, and it can read them, answer, summarise, plan and draft. Your assistant needs a Claude Pro plan or higher, which is where the connectors and the working room it relies on live.

The beauty of Claude is that you can connect your other digital accounts where one is available, such as Google, Slack, OneDrive and many more. What makes it special is that a paid plan lets Claude work with your real email, your calendars and your other online tools, wherever a connector exists.

With any Claude, nothing connected

Talk to it in plain language and paste in emails, documents, spreadsheets, PDFs and images.
Draft and rewrite emails, messages, plans, lists and documents.
Summarise long things you paste in, and research and explain in plain terms.
Remember how you like to work, from a short preference file you give it once.

A skill is a saved set of instructions Claude follows for a particular task. Use the ready-made ones, change them to fit how you work, or work with your assistant to write your own. Each one is a plain file, so nothing is locked.

The facts. Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF are built in. Anthropic publishes a set of example skills, and there is a public marketplace of thousands more to install. Every skill is a plain file you can open and change, or your assistant can help you write your own. Using and uploading skills in the Claude app is a paid plan feature, set up under Settings and Features. Only use skills from sources you trust.

The facts on connecting

What needs a connector, and what does not

Nothing connected. You paste things in and copy answers out. Claude cannot see your inbox or calendar on its own.
Microsoft 365, Outlook email and calendar. Reading email and calendar comes as standard. Sending and editing need write access turned on by an admin.
Google, Gmail and Calendar. Claude can read your mail and calendar, draft replies, and create or change events, and it asks before it sends.
Claude for Outlook, the add-in inside Outlook. In beta, and available on Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise.
Cowork, with a browser. Claude can work inside Outlook or Gmail on the web while you are signed in, clicking and typing for you and pausing for your approval before it sends. It uses a browser built into the desktop app, or your own Chrome if you prefer.
Claude drafts, you press send. It does not send anything on its own unless you give it full approval.
